After a lot of research, I decided to book my first safari with Daylight Adventures and I'm so happy I did! I initially came across them on Reddit and was a bit nervous since they don't have a ton of reviews, but ultimately decided to take the chance. During the planning stage, Misaro was super responsive and flexible with all of my back and forth to get the itinerary details just right. Her and Veroline provided excellent communication leading up to the trip and were always quick to respond to my many questions. Our driver Ken was fabulous -- so friendly and great about asking us what we wanted to see and how we wanted to structure our game drives. My mom is now his #1 fan lol. Throughout our trip, the team in Nairobi was great about checking in to make sure everything was going well. When we decided at the last minute to stay in Nairobi instead of continuing on to Diani Beach, the team was super helpful in helping us arrange a driver for sightseeing in Nairobi (Jasper was wonderful!). i want to preface this review by saying that my overall experience with daylight was positive, so for anyone trying to confirm their legitimacy, have no fear - they will deliver as promised.

that said, i want to be honest and thorough in my account of my experience with them, because i understand how huge of a financial and emotional investment a safari is, and how important reviews are in the planning and booking process.

this was my first time organizing a safari excursion (7 days in the masai mara and samburu, solo female) through an agency vs on my own, so i have no point of reference for what the process is normally like; i can only provide feedback based on my (many) past experiences with other tour companies.

first, the positives:
- communication and support during the booking phase were solid. the booking agent was patient with me through my slow response times while i was travelling and many rounds of feedback on the itineraries they provided. they accommodated all of my requests, no matter how minor. ultimately i was very happy with the final itinerary and the lodges they recommended.
- the actual safari unfolded as promised. pickup and drop off were on time, and there were no hidden fees or issues with reservations, other than an unplanned excursion to the maasai village that i would strongly encourage skipping if possible.
- the team was always responsive over whatsapp whenever i had questions or issues. i texted them midway through my safari to raise some concerns and they immediately remedied them.

however i’d like to mention two areas for improvement, of which i hope daylight can take note for future customers:
- once i put down the first portion of the deposit communication tapered off. i had to follow up about everything, from how to pay the remainder of the deposit to pick up time in nairobi (they didn’t let me know until the night before that i should expect my driver at 7am the next morning). while they never left me hanging when i reached out, being more proactive about providing essential information would have saved me a great deal of anxiety leading up to departure.
- i had mixed experiences with my guides. while they were both friendly and clearly capable at their jobs, there were some uncomfortable moments when they could have behaved more professionally. my first guide in the masai mara was great on our first day but seemed to phone it in after that, driving in circles around the same small section of the park and barely speaking to me. he also made an offhand racist remark about me being chinese, and lost his temper at me the final day when i asked him if we could switch from a morning and evening drive to a full day drive to make up for the lack of sightings over the past 2 days. my second guide in samburu was excellent in the park, explaining every animal we saw and putting a lot of effort into getting me the sightings i requested, for which i was very grateful. however, after we parted ways he wouldn’t stop hassling me over whatsapp about leaving him a review. it soured an otherwise positive experience and put a damper on the rest of my vacation.

overall i would still recommend daylight for your safari needs, as long as you’re a confident traveler who’s capable of setting boundaries and stating your needs. thank you elvis and team for planning a memorable week for me!

Travelled in February 2026. The entire experience is fantastic. The booking is wonderfully tailored, the communication is top notch and when our flight was significantly delayed, the Daylight team quickly arranged emergency accommodation for us in Nairobi and tweaked our itinerary. When things are going wrong, you need Daylight- their communication and planning really put us at ease whilst we were panicking. The airport pickup was flawless and our driver/guide (Mike) was incredibly friendly, polite, accommodating and had a fantastic passion for nature, birds and the animals. I really don’t think you could find a company/tour operator that takes such an interest in making your trip amazing from start to finish. They even helped to try and source halal food in hotels we stayed at or at rest stops. A huge thank you to Misaro and her team for their care and attention throughout our time in Kenya!

Kenyan Safari (with hiking)

Just had a nice itinerary in Kenya, and thought I’d share it.  The focus of this itinerary is “if you enjoy hiking, and are afraid safaris being 6-10 hours of car time for a week straight”.  Safaris are amazing, and also similar to a cruise… lots of delicious buffets, lots of lounging time, if you’re not careful, you’ll put on some pounds.

Day 1: Late arrival in Nairobi
D2-3: tour company drove me to ol pajeta.  I highly recommend Ol Pajeta and the rhino sanctuary to see the last two northern white rhinos.  I also strongly recommend the Maisha Sweetwaters camp for your stay.
D4: broke up the safari with a day hike of Mount Kenya.  Most of the information you’ll find on Mount Kenya calls for a 3 or 5 day hike.  If you want to make it to the highest hike-able peak, or if you want to climb to the tallest peak, you will need at least one overnight camp, but if you’re used to higher elevations (ie hike the Rockies, alps, Andes) you’ll be fine to make it up a lot of the mountain with a day trip.  I made it to the second day camp site (25km and 1200m very change, peak 4200m), which was a lot, but worth it.  I stayed in ol pajeta that night.  If you are a strong hiker, and start early in the morning, and get a strong guide, you might be able to hike to the top in one day, but I’ve never hiked above 4,500m, so I don’t know how much it slows you down.
D5: flew to Masai Mara and did a game drive.  The tour company offered to drive me from ol pajeta to lake naivasha and then to Masai Mara. This would save money.  But I thought the bush plane experience was fun, and it cuts 5-10 hours of total car time out.
D6-7: game drives.  Used the pool as my exercise.
D8-9: went to lake naivasha area to break up the drive from Masai Mara to Nairobi.  Biked and hiked around hells gate and Mt Longonot.  Highly recommend Mt Longonot as a hike.
D10: boat safari and walking safari at lake naivasha.  Stop at Nairobi national museum to kill time before getting on the plane.

Overall: Really cool trip, got to see the Big 5 along with other animals.  Got to see a lot of predators going after prey.  Trip was last week of May, which was perfect weather.  Food was delicious everywhere.  I made it a solo trip.  It costs some money, but it’s a cool bucket list type trip.  Highly recommend.

One adjustment to consider if you want more hiking (not sure if this is a common consideration haha):  I wish I could’ve fit in aberdare national park for some good hiking.  Maybe one less day of safari, and instead of flying to Masai Mara, drive to Abedare as the half way point.  It would be a lot of driving, but could be cool.

For tour company, I used daylight adventures.  They did a great job working with me (I booked everything two weeks before the trip, so very short notice).  Michael and Ken were my safari guides, both amazing.  Joseph and Joshua were my hiking guides at Mt Kenya and Mt Longonot respectively, both were great. After lots of research I decided to book my husband and I's first African safari with Daylight and I can see why they are highly recommended! Huge thanks to Veroline for being patient with us during the booking/payment process and for organizing such an amazing safari.

Another huge thanks to our guide, Justus, for working hard to ensure we see the Big 5 (which we did!) plus Cheetahs. He knew where to look for the wildlife and pointed out animals we would have missed! On top of that, he got us close enough for me to take beautiful photos with just my phone.

The drives between parks were long and tiring but we were able to joke around together with our guide to help make some time pass. The roads and traffic were so different compared to home (Canada) but Justus never made us feel uncomfortable or unsafe in his vehicle.

I wanted to purchase a sweater with Daylight's logo before heading home and Elvis made sure we each got a sweater before we left. I am not sure what happened on their end but shout out to Elvis for driving all the way down to the airport and meeting my husband outside so we could get our sweaters! They are super soft and comfortable and I hope people ask me about it when I wear it so I can tell them about Daylight and our trip.

Everyone who was involved in organizing our trip in Kenya were extremely kind, caring, friendly and went above and beyond. Do not hesitate to book with Daylight!

Daylight Adventures was recommended to us by a friend of mine, and I will most definitely do the same! If I could give more than 5 stars I would :) Elvis and Misaro from Daylight Adventures were incredibly helpful, made an itinerary just for us with fast and impeccable communication and they have broad knowledge of travel options and possibilities in Kenya and beyond. Our driver was amazing, became a friend, and was very good at spotting wildlife and at communicating with other drivers in order to spot many different animals. Daylight Adventures is trustworthy and reliable. My mother and I travelled to Kenya for the first time, and for my mother this was quite stressful as she never travelled in this region before, but Daylight Adventures had organised and communicated everything so well that the stress soon melted away, and she was able to fully enjoy a wonderful holiday. If you’re looking for a genuine and helpful company to plan a trip to Kenya or the surrounding area, I wholeheartedly recommend Daylight Adventures :)
