Our safari adventure kicks off with a welcome brunch, because nothing starts a trip better than good food (and mimosas!). First stop: the Giraffe Center, where we’ll get up close and personal with these long-necked charmers. Then, it’s on to the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust where I have arranged for a private viewing of their orphaned elephants. No crowds, just us and a bunch of (very) enthusiastic baby ellies. Since the orphanage is inside Nairobi National Park, we’ll sneak in a short game drive before wrapping up the day with dinner at the legendary Carnivore Restaurant (vegetarian options available. locals say you haven’t truly been to Nairobi until you’ve been to Carnivore!).
After breakfast we’ll take a 3-hr drive to Lake Nakuru National Park. We’ll arrive just in time for lunch. After a good meal and settling in to our suites, our first proper game drive is due. We will (most likely!) see endangered rhinos, zebras, leopards (hopefully!), etc. Lake Nakuru is home to over 400 bird species, including flamingos, pelicans, and eagles. Truly a birder’s paradise.
Before the main course, we will first enjoy a scenic boat safari on Lake Nakuru, guided by a Naturalist for an insightful experience. Breakfast, complete with sparkling wine, will be served on board. After our safari by the sea (well, lake… but “sea” sounds fancier), we’ll skip the 5-hour drive as I have arranged a chartered flight to dash us to the Mara Ripoi Conservancy. We will then head to our lodge, Lalashe Mara Ripoi and get settled in to our tented suites. Each tent is assigned a private buttler. By the afternoon of Day 4, we’ll be deep in the savannah on a game drive.
We’ll have unlimited game drives including night safaris (when lions are most active, there’s nothing like a lion’s roar in the dark that can get the blood pumping), early morning drives (with fresh tracks), bush meals, and sundowners. Unlike a national park, the conservancy allows more flexibility, yet it shares the same ecosystem as the Masai Mara National Reserve and Serengeti National Park, so animals roam freely. The land divisions are just a human thing. As for sundowners, I’ve arranged one by the dam, where we can sip G&Ts while elephants enjoy a mud bath. You can also opt for a walking safari (or an extended one), always accompanied by expert guides and Maasai security. We’ll visit a local Maasai community, where they’ll perform the traditional Maasai Warrior dance. If you’re feeling bold, stretch those hamstrings, quads, and calves because you’re welcome to join in. And between game drives? Your private plunge pool awaits. don’t be surprised if a few thirsty herbivores stop by for a drink!
A trip to Kenya wouldn’t be complete without visiting the Iconic Maasai Mara National reserve. We’ll head out on a full day game drive. in the late afternoon, we’ll settle into our mara lodge – lalashe maasai mara. We’ll need to wind down early for an ultra early start the following morning to catch the sunrise on a hot air balloon (optional with an additional fee, but trust me, you will want to do this). This breathtaking experience wraps up with a champagne breakfast in the bush. If conditions allow, we’ll take a short nature walk by the Mara River. led by a park ranger, to get as close as possible to the Great Migration crossing sites. From there, our game drives will continue inside the national park. we will also do a special visit to a rhino sanctuary. And yes, all suites come with a private plunge pool too, and a bath tub overlooking the savannah (watch the resident hippos come out at sunset from the comforts of your own tent).
As we’re jetting back to Nairobi on a chartered flight, we will have time for a morning game drive after breakfast before Our adventure wraps up. our transfers will be waiting at wilson airport to take us to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport.
